Daisy

I just wanted to share with you what happened about 2 weeks ago. A friend of mine and my husbands, told us she wanted to get a little lap dog that would alert her if anyone came around. A little dog to hold and to love. I felt the best chance to find one for her was to contact the vet I used to work for since she usually has pets that need homes. When we called her that night she told us about Daisy. She had been there along time and no one would adopt her, most people want puppies. Daisy is 3 years old. She had some problems with her previous owner and because of this, she doesn't like other animals and small children. Daisy was scheduled to be put down the next day. Daisy loves to sit in a lap and be loved and let's you know when someone comes around. I contacted my friend and told her about Daisy. She said she'd take her even before she saw her. I had a photo emailed to her so she could see Daisy, and she wanted her even more. We had planned a trip to have some other things done at our vets, so we made plans to bring Daisy back with us. She met her new family a week ago. She has adopted my friend and stays beside her all the time. She loves her two boys and they all love Daisy. Daisy just wanted someone to love her, and now she has what she wants. Sometimes even when things are not so good, they turn out happy in the end. I believe God had his hand in this one, the timing was perfect for everything to work out!!!

Kandy & Kacey's Help

Posted by pettalk693 on April 17, 2009 at 3:27 AM Comments comments (0)

It's been a while since I added to the blog. I've been busy getting used to having puppies again after all these years. We've been working on the housebreaking. Kacey hasn't had an accident since the first day we brought him home. He took to it right away. Kandy hasn't been as easy, but she's doing better. We just finished up their shots last Sat. Glad that's all done. They have gained some weight too. Kandy was 1.2 lbs. and now she's 3.5 lbs. Kacey was 1.6 lbs. and now he's 5.0 lbs. We were right to take both puppies, they are so close. We wanted them to have each other when we couldn't be with them. They also have helped me too. They make me laugh alot, even at times when I don't feel like it. They help keep me busy just like my special cats do. I still miss Kodi so much, and I guess I always will, it's like part of my heart died with him. But it helps to have all these guys to love me and keep me busy. I love them lots and welcome the work. They are all great and very special!!!:)

On Dec. 16, 2008 these two were born. When we went home for Christmas, I was talking to the best Vet in the World, Dr. Pam. She knew what a hard time I've had with loosing Kodi, my precious little angel, last Oct. 30. She told us about these puppies that were needing a home as soon as they got old enough. She knew we needed some time to think about it, since it hadn't been very long since we lost Kodi. She called us on Feb. 7, to see if we wanted a puppy. We had decided it would be good for us and for the puppies if we took 2 so they'd have each other as well as us. So we met Dr. Pam and now we have 2 very active sweet little chihuahuas. They both just weigh a little over a pound. We are enjoying them and loving them everyday. I feel like Kodi is watching over them just as we are.

MISTI

Misti is a miracle cat, at least that's how we feel about her. My husband and I were walking around in our front yard and we heard this tiny little meow. We didn't see anything anywhere, but we kept hearing the meow. I went into the house for a couple of minutes and when I came back out, a little kitten was walking up to my husband. She wasn't scared at all, she just wanted us to love her. As soon as we got close enough to her to see her good, we realized she had a very serious problem. Someone had cut her tail off. Not just part of it, but all the way off. It was open and exposed. All we could figure was that someone had dumped her on the side of the road either after they did this to her, or she was dumped and them abused and was hiding till she felt she could trust someone. This was on Sunday and on Monday we took her to see what could be done to help her. She had surgery to close up the opening, but within 24 hours she was back at the vets. The stitches popped and it all opened up again. So we took her back and they did surgery a second time and then a third. Finally the fourth time, the vet tried a new way and it finally worked. It took about a month for her to get to normal. She got to where she didn't have accidents anymore. And now except for the missing tail, you would never know she went through all this. She was only 3 months old when she found us and now she's 4 1/2 years old. Like I've always believed, God sends these precious little guys to us because he knows we will help them and love them.

Sissy

Sissy is our oldest little girl right now. She just turned 18 on Nov. 28. She sleeps most of the time, she is still the boss of the house and she lets all the young ones know it. She was just about 3 months when we picked her out from 3 kittens. She wanted to sit in my lap, so I knew she would be happy with us since she did the pickin. She's starting to have a few problems with her memory and her back legs are getting weak. But she knows someone will always be there to help her when she needs it. She's a very special little lady. When one of the (kids) try to get a little too frisky and playful she hisses until they take notice and let her alone. She always manages to handle them with no help.

LUCKY

I'll talk more about the family of five later.

I'd like to tell you a little about Lucky now. His mom was a beautiful calico that came to our back yard to have her babies. When we first saw her she had a litter of three kittens. They were already big enough that you couldn't catch them. We tried to catch her and get her spayed, but didn't have any luck. It wasn't long that we noticed she looked like she was gaining weight. We figured she was probably pregnant. About 3 weeks later we found her kittens. She had 2 boys and 2 girls. It was getting really cold so we were trying to keep a close watch on her to make sure she had everything she needed. She was wild and wouldn't let us touch her. One day when we checked on her, all we found was one very cold kitten. My husband covered him and waited a while to see if she was coming back. When she didn't, we brought him inside. He was about 10 days old and we weren't sure we could keep him alive. We set up our heating pad and fixed him a warm and cozy bed and started bottle feeding him. We had lots of trouble finding a formula he could tolerate. Finally we found one he could handle. He started making progress, day by day. That's how we decided on his name. He went through alot being so young, and was very lucky to survive. Now he's a great big beautiful boy.

A few weeks later his mom returned with his brother and sisters. As soon as the kittens were old enough to be weaned, we set out a live trap and started catching them and their mom. We took them to get shots and spayed and neutered to try and control the population of animals at our home. We brought them all back home to live out their lives here. There are still two of them that stays here all the time. Lucky's brother Tuffy and his sister Sandy.

When we finally got all five of these guys inside. That's when I started to try and get the young ones to let me touch them. It didn't take too long for BJ and Abby to warm up to me. A little longer for Babe. Frostee was the one that took the most time. He wasn't havin' any of it no matter what. Our vet even had to pull out all the tricks to get flea control on him. It was a very long road but he finally came around. Mom and all four of her kittens, which are about 16 months old now, are very loving and special cats. Each one tries to move the other back to get all the attention. It helps me alot right now to spend time with them. I thank God everyday that he sent them to me.

As I said last night, one day at a time! That's the only way I can deal with loosing Kodi.

I'd like to tell you alittle about Angel, or Mama Cat as she likes to be called. About 2 years ago our neighbors that live behind us moved out of their house. They left behind a Mother cat and 4 kittens. When we realized what had happened we started trying to catch them to take them to the shelter. We had already trapped and had 6 cats fixed and got them shots and turned them loose in our yard to live. We were already over the limit for how many cats we could have here. So we felt if we could help find them a home at least it would be better than just leaving them to keep multiplying and no one to care for them. We managed to catch all but one kitten. And you guessed it, that kitten is Angel. She's about 2 to 2 1/2 years old now.

About Aug.1,2007, I was sitting on my back step when I noticed her laying in front of our storage shed. I watched for a little while, and one by one, out came 4 kittens. Bearly able to walk, they came out to nurse mom. I knew before these guys got much bigger, I had to do something. Just a little while before this we found out we had some cat haters living around us. So we knew when they got big enough to run around, they wouldn't be safe. So I started that day working with Angel trying to win her confidence. It took about 2 weeks, and she was letting me pet her. Once I knew the kittens were old enough, my husband and I spent a weekend using all the ways we could think of to get the 4 kittens. Mom had taught them well to avoid humans. But by Sunday morning we had Mom and all 4 kittens safely in our spare bedroom. We had Mom, solid white, 2 kittens, solid white, 1 kitten, white with a few black hairs right on the top of his head, and 1 kitten, gray tabby. At first we questioned if this gray tabby kitten was truly hers. But they are all the same age, and Mom always treated them all the same, and all the kittens treated each other the same. Had to be 2 dads there!! That's when the fun really began. Trying to win these little ones over took some doing.

Kodi's Memory

I'm back, still trying to take one day at a time. It was a week ago last Thurs. night that we lost Kodi. I feel like it happens again everyday. For the last 5 years since Kodi's illnesses got worse, I've spent nearly every minute with him. Just spending as little time as possible doing shopping in order to get back to care for Kodi. I tried to be there for him anytime he needed me. I was so close to him I felt like he was part of my heart. Everytime he had another problem come up, my husband and I always figured out a way to help him. Sometimes we called his very special vet to get her opinion. We always managed to help him in some way. He was so special, we just had to. I have never felt so loved by a pet as I did by him. Even as hard as it had gotten for him to do things, he still followed me around while I did my chores. His little feet would slide on our tile floors, so he started taking these precious baby steps so he wouldn't slide. I'd be making a bed or folding laundry and here he would come, little baby steps looking for his grandma. I still wake up in the night and in the morning expecting to see that sweet little face looking for me. It's going to take a very long time to not be looking for him to be there. I miss and love him so much. My husband and I are just trying to help each other. But we know Kodi will always be in our hearts and we will never forget him.
